This year, during the weekend of June 9-11, the Georgia Cancer Foundation (GCF) encourages everyone who has known and loved someone touched by cancer to honor them during Cancer Hope & Remembrance Observance Weekend.
“Most people know at least one person who has been touched by cancer, whether it be a friend, loved one, or co-worker,” said Brenda Horne, Executive Director of GCF. “This weekend gives Georgians the chance to recognize those people and to help others who are in the same situation.”
In 2003, the Georgia Cancer Foundation was instrumental in persuading the Georgia Assembly to proclaim the second weekend in June as Cancer Hope & Remembrance Observance Weekend. This annual observance gives hope and recognition to those who are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or in remission or complete recovery, and pays tribute to those who have lost their lives to cancer.
Please honor loved ones who have been touched by cancer with a donation to GCF. This gift will support all programs of GCF and its affiliates, Bosom Buddies of Georgia and ChemoChic. The names of donors and those honored or memorialized will be posted on the Foundation’s website and listed in the Cornerstone newsletter––unless otherwise requested.
The foundation also encourages people to pay tribute in their own way beginning at noon on June 9. Suggestions include observing a moment of silence, tolling bells at a specific time, or publicizing the observance weekend in worship centers or service club publications.
